Williamsburg Police have charged two people — Walter E. Davis, 47, and Patricia Lane, 23 — with assault after an alleged parking lot confrontation.

Around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Davis parked his car in a space next to Lane in the Monticello Shopping Center — on Monticello Avenue in the City of Williamsburg — then hit her car with his door upon exiting, said Maj. Greg Riley, a police spokesperson.

Lane confronted Davis, and both people have claimed they were assaulted by the other during the confrontation — first verbally, then physically, Riley said.

Lane is then accused of scratching Davis’ car, which prompted Davis to pull out a handgun and point it at Lane, a police report states. The damage to Davis’ vehicle was unknown.

Riley is unsure whether Davis had a concealed weapon permit in his possession.

Davis was charged with brandishing a firearm and assault and was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he is currently being held.

Lane was released from the scene, and warrants were later obtained charging her with destruction of private property and assault.
