Lauren Arndt, a 25-year-old James City County woman, was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony embezzlement, according to Stephanie Williams, a spokesperson for the James City County Police Department.

Arndt was originally hired as an office manager for Vehix Discount Direct, an automotive locator and purchasing business on John Tyler Highway. The embezzlement allegedly began in July and ended in November, when the owner of the company discovered $11,568 had been charged to the company.

Arndt allegedly submitted 964 hours of work she did not complete to payroll, Williams said.

Williams said it was unclear how the Vehix Discount Direct owner discovered the alleged embezzlement.

Arndt will appear in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court for a hearing at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 9.
