A drive-through Taco Bell may soon stand near the Lowe’s at the intersection of East Rochambeau Drive and Mooretown Road.

The York County Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend approving a special-use permit that would allow the fast-food chain to build a restaurant near Route 199.

A special-use permit is required by the county as a drive-through window is proposed in the area, which is zoned for economic opportunity.

“I think this is a good use for this property, and it looks like a good plan,” said Commissioner Mark Suiter at Wednesday’s meeting.

The restaurant, if approved by the Board of Supervisors, will have an entrance that leads into the Lowe’s parking lot, Planner Earl Anderson said.

Lowe’s did not reply to inquiries made by county staff, but Anderson said an access agreement between the hardware store and Taco Bell would have to be made before Taco Bell gets its site plan approved.

The restaurant will be located across from a Wells Fargo bank and a Starbucks and adjacent to a Burger King. Farther down Mooretown Road sits a Chick-fil-A in the Williamsburg Market Center.

The Board of Supervisors will review the application at its Dec. 16 meeting.
