Small Cooking Fire Causes Damage to James City County Home

A cooking fire damaged a James City County home’s kitchen Saturday night.

James City County Fire units were dispatched to the house on the 1900 block of Algonquin Trail in the Pocahontas Square subdivision at 6:57 p.m Saturday, according to a news release from Assistant Chief Miles Pettengell.

Units arrived at 7:01 p.m. to find light smoke coming out of the home and the occupant inside attempting to extinguish the fire.

The fire was brought under control by 7:07 p.m. Damage in the kitchen was contained to the stove, the kitchen cabinets and the ceiling directly above the stove, according to the release.

Fire officials determined the fire was caused due to unattended cooking. Fire units stayed on the scene until 8:04 p.m. removing smoke and checking for additional fire damage.

There were no reported injuries.
