A 22-year-old James City County woman accused of videotaping herself abusing her 2-year-old daughter was found competent to stand trial Friday.
Kimberly Michelle Hines underwent a mental health evaluation at the request of her attorney, Brandon Waltrip.
Hines’ preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 31 in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Evidence will be presented to the judge, who will decide whether the case moves forward to a grand jury.
Hines was arrested July 21 after her boyfriend told James City County Police she used her cell phone to film herself kicking her daughter off a toilet trainer seat, throwing a book, pillow and a child’s toy at her and cursing repeatedly at her, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said after her arrest.
The 2-year-old suffered minor injuries, including bruising and cuts, Rubino said.
Hines is charged with felony child abuse and misdemeanor domestic assault and battery.
