Deputies: Woman Lights Items on Fire, Throws Them at Hotel Awning

 

york poquoson sheriffA woman was arrested July 28 at the Duke of York Motor Hotel after she threw burning items at an awning on the property, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office reported.

Sonia Castagna, 48-year-old North Chesterfield resident, is charged with more than $1,000 in property damages after someone who works for the hotel on Water Street in Yorktown called the YPSO to report Castagna was lighting fire to items, including cardboard, and throwing them at the awning, Capt. Jimmy Richardson said.

Richardson had no information on a motive behind the alleged act, but said she was alone during the incident.

Castagna is charged with one felony count of destruction of property.
