YCSD Schedules Second Interviews for Superintendent Search

YCSD_SealThe York County School Division’s search for a new superintendent will enter a second round of interviews.

YCSD school board members voted at a special meeting Friday morning to interview superintendent candidates between Aug. 6 and 20 at an undisclosed location. The first round of interviews for prospective candidates was scheduled to run from July 21 to Aug. 4.

The second round of interviews will not involve new candidates, said school board Chairman Mark Medford. All the candidates interviewed in the second round were interviewed in the first.

“The Superintendent search brought some fantastically talented and well qualified persons,” Medford said in an email.

Medford said the process is moving in a positive direction, and the board hopes to make a hiring decision before September. However, any announcement would depend on the board finding a satisfactory candidate.

“We will continue interviewing until we find the next great educational leader for the York County School Division,” Medford said in an email.

Like the first round of interviews, the second round will be held at an undisclosed location.

Virginia law requires school boards to publicly announce the time and location of meetings in which three or more board members will be present, but makes an exception for meetings held solely to interview candidates for chief administrative officer positions. In these instances, the board must open session to formally enter closed session for the 15-day window for interviews.
