About 900 athletes are expected this weekend to participate in the Rev3 Triathlon in James City County, and the race is expected to cause some traffic delays.
The Rev3 Triathlon — along with a glow run tonight and an adventure race Saturday — is returning to the area after making its debut last year with a course across James City County and the City of Williamsburg.
This year’s race is concentrated in the county, and county police will be on hand to direct traffic around the athletes Sunday.
The Rev3Glow 5K Night Race and 1-mile fun run, which will likely draw about 800 participants, are scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. today in New Town. The events are expected to cause limited traffic disruptions in New Town and the Settler’s Market area. An outdoor movie in New Town is scheduled to follow the race, starting at 9:15 p.m.
The Little Rev Adventure Race will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Stadium Road near the Warhill Sports Complex.
The Olympic and half triathlons scheduled for Sunday are expected to cause traffic delays and road closures along the biking route. Click here for a map.
Cranston’s Mill Pond Road will be closed during the event.
Centerville Road will be the heaviest traveled road, and motorists will be stopped periodically to allow bicyclists to ride.
Delays should be expected between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the following roads:
- John Tyler Highway
- Greensprings Road
- Jolly Pond Road
- Opportunity Way
- Little Creek Dam Road
- Forge Road
- Diascund Road
- Richmond Road from Forge Road through Anderson’s Corner into Lanexa
Police will be directing traffic during the race to keep participants and motorists moving efficiently. Organizers are advising motorists to exercise extreme caution, as bicyclists will be travelling on the roadways throughout the day.
“I think that very few people are going to be inconvenienced by this, especially since it’s going to end up in Warhill [Sports Complex] and will be contained,” said Jody Puckett, James City County communications director.
