The James City County Police Department and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will host a Coffee With a Cop gathering at Shorty’s Diner in the James-York Plaza in Upper York County at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Coffee With a Cop is meant to bring law enforcement and community members together in a neutral setting instead of the emergencies or other emotionally-charged situations where the two groups often meet.
The gathering aims to break down barriers and allow for relaxed interaction, according to a news release from James City County.
Additional Coffee With a Cop dates will be scheduled in the future. The gatherings are held across the country with support from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
More information about the program can be found at the DOJ’s website.
