york poquoson sheriffIn the last month, rocks or pieces of concrete have been thrown at houses and vehicles in York County, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

All 13 incidents, which started Dec. 29, occurred between 9 p.m. and midnight. The homes and vehicles are concentrated around Seaford, Yorktown and Grafton, though one incident occurred in Lackey and another in Tabb.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for hurling the projectiles. One residence on the 2000 block of Old York Hampton Highway has had windows broken by rocks four separate times, beginning Dec. 29. The other instances occurred on Jan. 2, 5 and 18.

Two other incidents were reported Jan. 2 — someone threw a rock and broke the window of a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Mastin Avenue, and someone threw a piece of concrete at a vehicle parked in a driveway on the 1000 block of Hornsbyville Road.

On Jan. 5, someone threw a rock at a residence on the 1000 block of Wolftrap Road, breaking a window. A day later, someone broke a window with a rock at a residence on the 1000 block of York-Warwick Drive. A rock was also thrown around 9 p.m. at a residence on the 100 block of Mastin Avenue, striking the siding beneath a window. A witness saw a white late-model Chevrolet Suburban leaving the area.

On Jan. 7, someone broke a window at a residence on the 100 block of South Fern Court.

At about 1:35 a.m. Jan. 18, someone broke a window with a rock on the 1600 block of Goosley Road. A silver Volkswagen Jetta was seen leaving the area.

Other than the two Jan. 18 instances, there was a lull after the Jan. 7 instances until Jan. 27 on the 200 block of Old York-Hampton Highway. Around 11:30 p.m., a rock was thrown through a window at a residence there. A witness reported seeing a small silver car or sport utility vehicle leaving the area.

At about 11:20 p.m. Jan. 28, a rock broke a window of a residence on the 100 block of Mays Landing. A witness reported seeing a white or silver vehicle leaving the area.
