Deputies Investigate Friday Night Shooting Near Yorktown

york poquoson sheriffThe York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two people were shot in the parking lot of Colonial Harbor Independent Senior Living Community near Yorktown.

YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey said deputies responded to the McDonald’s at the corner of Fort Eustis Boulevard and George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) at about 8:50 p.m. on Friday. There they found the victim, who had traveled from the adjacent senior living community to the restaurant to seek help.

Deputies determined the suspect fired the gun at the victim, who was grazed in the head by the bullet during the incident. The victim suffered non life-threatening injuries. The robber did not get away with anything. The investigation thus far has revealed that the robber and the victim knew each other.

According to a post on the YPSO Facebook page, a second person believed to have been involved in the incident walked into Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester County with a gunshot wound on Friday night. That person was taken to MCV Hospital in Richmond for treatment. Ivey said it is unclear how many guns were involved in the incident.

Ivey said neither the victim nor the crime had any connection to Colonial Harbor. He said nobody attempted to rob McDonald’s.

It was initially reported the shooting occurred in the parking lot of McDonald’s, but that information is not accurate. Nobody has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anybody with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP (888-562-5887).
