The York County School Board voted 5-0 on Monday to exchange a parcel of land with York County, sealing the exchange about one month after the York County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to the deal.

The school board receives 3,741 square feet of land at 619 Cook Road, where school officials want to build a small bus loop adjacent to the visitor’s field house at York High School’s Bailey Field. The county receives 85,107 square feet at 9300 George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) to be used for the construction of a stormwater management facility that’s part of the Cook-Falcon Road drainage improvement project.

No other consideration is necessary other than the exchange of the two properties, according to a  memorandum from York County Administrator James McReynolds.

The stormwater project is necessary as the area is often prone to flooding. During rain this summer, water pooled in many areas along Cook Road, especially near the intersections of Old York-Hampton Highway and Falcon and Battle roads.

In a brief presented to members of the School Board, the exchange was framed as benefiting both the York County School Division and the county. McReynolds said in the memorandum he recommended the deal, as it serves the interest of both the county and the school board.
