Board members Joe Fuentes and Jim Kelly were sworn in on Tuesday night to their positions on the school board following the November elections.
Kelly ran unopposed in the Jamestown District and Fuentes won his seat in the Powhatan District 3,114 to 1,052 against challenger Melinda Lincoln-Richardson.
Kelly has been on the school board since his appointment in 2009 but, because of redistricting and changed boundary lines the November election was his first to a full term. Joe Fuentes has been on the school board since January of 2006 and November was his third time running for the position.
Kelly said he joined the school board because he believes strongly in education and his father was a teacher. Fuentes said he had been attending school board meetings for 10 years before he actually joined the board and it was a natural transition for him.
School board members serve four-year terms with no limit on consecutive terms. The current term for Fuentes and Kelly runs until December of 2017.
