Independent Audit: High Marks for York County’s Books, Compliance with Laws

The annual independent audit of York County’s finances and compliance with laws and grant requirements has been completed, and the prognosis is good.

Krista Edoff from Cherry Bekaert LLP, said at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting that the county received the equivalent of a perfect score in areas such as financial management, recordkeeping and transactions. The top scores stretched to compliance with regulations and laws affecting the county, including compliance with federal grants the county received.

“We are pleased to report the county has an unmodified opinion on all audit reports,” Edoff said. “That’s the best result you can expect to receive.”

The audit looked at significant transactions the county made in the last year, looking for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Cherry Bekaert LLP, is an independent firm, conducting the audit without oversight from county staff. Edoff said staff was cooperative with all requests.

Walt Zaremba, the chairman of the York County Board of Supervisors, praised the financial stewardship of the county by staff.

“It’s nice to know we’re fiscally clean and responsible with the way we manage taxpayer dollars,” Zaremba said.

The results of the audit mirror that of last year, when no problems were found by the firm.
