VIMS Professor to Share Zooplankton Knowledge with Community

Zooplankton: they eat microscopic algae that produce our oxygen, feed many marine creatures and they might even help reduce global warming.

Despite the discovery of their important role, the scientific world knows little about them because they are difficult to study. William and Mary Professor Deborah Steinberg is up for the challenge. She has been studying zooplankton for more than 25 years and she’s gearing up to talk to the community about them Tuesday.

On Oct. 29 at the Kimball Theatre, Steinberg will share her knowledge with audience members at 7 p.m. during the Fall 2013 Tack Faculty Lecture Series. This time, the twice-per-year lecture series takes attendees out into the open ocean through video and photos acquired through William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

The lecture, called “From Plankton to Planet,” is free and open to the public. Those interested can RSVP on the William & Mary website.
