JCC Police Investigating String of Copper and Wire Burglaries

Over $32,000 in copper and wire was stolen during a string of burglaries from Dominion Power buildings between Jan. 11 and 14 in James City County.

One burglary took place in Grove, where $3,000 of copper wire was stolen from a Dominion Power building near the 8900 block of Pocahontas Trail. During the course of the burglary, windows were broken and doors were damaged on the building, said Major Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department.

Another burglary, which was reported on Jan. 11, was at a Dominion Power substation near the site of the Grove burglary. Fifty feet of wire valued at $25,000 was stolen.

A wire valued at $4,000 was stolen from a Dominion Power Substation on the 8400 block of Pocahontas Trail. That was also reported on Jan. 11.

Also reported on Jan. 11 was a break-in at a Dominion Power station on Blow Flats Road. A fence was cut to gain access, and a $50 copper wire was stolen.

Rubino said that since the burglaries were all reported around the same time and were in the same area, police believe the same person or group is responsible. It is unclear if these burglaries are connected to a break-in at a shed on Monticello Ave. last December when $1,200 of copper wire and a $1,000 saw was stolen. You can read more about that here.
