A 36-year-old South Carolina man suspected in a 2001 rape and a 2002 attempted rape in Williamsburg was extradited here Wednesday after he was arrested by Philadelphia Police on Dec. 23.
Tyrone Lamont Holloway is facing one abduction charge and one rape charge from September 2001 and one attempted abduction charge and one attempted rape charge from a March 2002 incident, according to a press release from the Williamsburg Police Department. In the March 2002 incident, the victim was able to fight off her attacker. Holloway has also been charged with robbery for allegedly stealing jewelry from one of the victims, said Major Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department.
Police received a description of the suspect during the course of their investigations in 2001 and 2002, though they did not receive the information that led them to identify Holloway as a suspect until December of last year. Once the charges were filed Dec. 20, Philadelphia Police arrested Holloway three days later. Riley said the description of the suspects from the two incidents is similar, and there is other evidence that links the crimes.
Riley said the victims did not know their attacker. Holloway is currently being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
