WJCC Launches Redesigned Site, New URL

Williamsburg-James City County Schools has launched a new website with a new address, and is in the process of updating individual school sites.

The new site design will look familiar to parents and teachers because it uses the Edline site platform. Unlike Edline, login information is not required to view the division’s pages, however. Edline is an online community management system that allows teachers to provide homework assignment information, grades and announcements to students and parents.

The new site, now located at https://www.wjccschools.org, was completed in-house, with the redesign process beginning in July. The site had a soft launch last week, seeking user input to troubleshoot bugs or add information.

“We hope to make it easier for our users to find information and we hope to be more interactive with them,” said Betsy Overkamp-Smith, director of Public Relations and Engagement for the division.

WJCC also plans to launch a blog in the fall and connect its existing Twitter feed to the site. “We also plan to post more videos in the future so our community can see and hear the great things that are happening in our schools,” she said.

Once the division website is complete, staff plans to begin working with the division’s 15 schools to focus their web presence on their Edline sites (currently, each school maintains its own site and an Edline site). “We plan to start meeting with high school administrators after school starts to determine their needs and then move forward from there,” Overkamp-Smith said.
