YORK COUNTY — York County has named Bo Clayton as its new assistant county administrator and business advocate, filling a newly created leadership position focused on business relations, cross-departmental initiatives and economic development.
Clayton most recently served as deputy city manager for Newport News, a position he held since 2019. According to York County, he oversaw major capital projects and initiatives, downtown revitalization efforts and public safety coordination and emergency response.
Before entering local government, Clayton served in several senior U.S. Army leadership roles, including as garrison commander at Fort Eustis, where he oversaw operations supporting a community of more than 22,000 people.
In his new role, announced on Tuesday, Clayton will lead the county’s business relations efforts and major initiatives while supporting economic and community development.
“Bo is a proven leader with a long record of service, collaboration, and mission-focused results,” County Administrator Mark Bellamy said in a statement. “His expertise in project coordination, strategic planning, and community support makes him an outstanding fit.”
