At its August quarterly meeting at New Kent Sheriff’s Office, the Colonial Community Criminal Justice Board—serving the counties of Charles City, James City, New Kent, and York as well as the cities of Poquoson and Williamsburg—recognized Jay Faggart for his efforts in championing the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and the Crisis Intervention Therapeutic Assessment Center (CITAC) in the Colonial Region. For more than 15 years, Jay has been a supporter of, then trainer for CIT. While presenting the award, Justice Board Member and Nominator David Coe stated, “You have improved lives while you have improved our criminal justice system”.
Crisis Intervention Team training provides local officers, deputies, dispatchers, and troopers with additional tools to assist them in deescalating situations with persons experiencing metal health crises. These tools can often prevent violent outcomes and ultimately save lives.
