The Drying Co./ThermalTec wins Mutual Insurance Company Safety award

The Drying Co./ThermalTec is proud to be recognized by the National Association of Home Builders as the 2018 NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) first place winner in the category of Remodeler Safety Program of the Year (Less than 50 employees).

“I am so proud of the entire Drying Company team for their commitment to safety. We train and talk about safety often, but it is the commitment and effort of each individual on our team that creates a safe work environment. Congratulations to my team for keeping each other safe!” said Steven Tetreault, President.

We are committed to ensuring a safe work environment for all of our employees. As we perform foundation repair, basement waterproofing, crawl space and attic services in existing homes, new homes, and air barrier & insulation jobs on new and existing commercial buildings we make safety a daily priority.

Our employees are trained weekly in all aspects of safety including confined spaces practices, electrocution prevention, encountering varmints, pests & snakes, proper lifting, sight & hearing protection, and silica safety training.

Our crews are often exposed to mold and mildew through their frequent work in crawl spaces and basements. To mitigate this risk, we provide head to toe PPE, including goggles, gloves, head socks, and full body suits. We also fund a medical review of their lung health, provide a respirator and regularly enforce proper usage.

We are often challenged by the extreme weather the Virginia Peninsulas and Richmond experience throughout the year. Severe temperatures, icy road conditions, and storm related road conditions cause us to occasionally prevent crews from working.
In the summer, we schedule crews to work during the cooler part of the day, supervisors frequently monitor heat safety and encourage hydration and breaks throughout the day to prevent heat illness. Crews are thoroughly educated on identifying signs of heat illness and prevention tactics.

The same goes for winter weather, we train crews about the surprisingly high temperatures at which frostbite may occur, the importance of dressing in layers, and wearing proper gloves that allow for warmth and dexterity.
