WJCC Community Action Agency announces Executive Director

The Williamsburg-James City County Community Action Agency (WJCC CAA) Board of Directors unanimously named Tressell Carter as the agency’s next Executive Director. She

will take over the role held by Anthony Conyers, Jr., Interim Executive Director. Carter will lead the 50-year-old agency’s work supporting low-income families as they build self-sufficiency.

“I am excited to be following in the path of a great leader – Mrs. Reba Bolden,” Carter said. “I look forward to working with CAA’s dedicated staff in leading CAA to its future. I am most grateful for the CAA Board of Directors’ confidence in me to serve as the Executive Director.”

Carter brings 20 years of experience leading nonprofits to the WJCC Community Action Agency. Most recently she served as Senior Associate with Open Minds, a national consulting firm specializing in health and human services. Locally, she served as Executive Director of the Colonial Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Williamsburg, where she provided leadership in strategic planning, fund development and institutional stewardship. She has also served as Director at Neighborhood Connections, James City County, and Executive Director of Grace Senior Services in Richmond.

Carolyn E. Baker, WJCC CAA Board Chair summed up the agency’s sentiments: “I am so excited about our new Executive Director and the pathway to success and guidance she brings to Community Action Agency.”
