This spring, Chippokes Plantation State Park and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are teaming up to create two brand new pollinator gardens that will be put in by the park’s visitor center.

On April 25, volunteers will be planting thousands of native flowers and shrubs to help the different pollinators that call Chippokes home. Come discover what goes into creating a native plant garden, and why they are so important for wildlife and humans alike. Then, make your mark on the park by helping us to plant some of these beautiful flowers and shrubs.

All those who would like to volunteer are invited to stop by the visitor center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help us with this wonderful project. Volunteers are welcome to come and help for as long as they may like. Bring a lunch and enjoy the beautiful view looking over the James River. The park will provide water and snacks for the volunteers.

There are limited supplies of gardening tools and gloves, so if you have a favorite trowel or pair of gardening gloves, please feel free to bring your own. Those interested in volunteering that day please contact the Farm and Forestry Museum office at 757-294-3439.
