
JAMES CITY COUNTY — The suspect in Saturday’s armed robbery of the Wells Fargo bank at Monticello Marketplace was found deceased in North Carolina, James City County Police announced.
On Dec. 13, at approximately 9:13 a.m., the James City County Police Department said it responded to the reported robbery in the 4600 block of Monticello Avenue to find that an unidentified male had entered the bank, displayed a firearm, demanded money, and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported, officials said.
According to police, on Dec. 14, warrants were obtained charging 50-year-old Richard Frey of the 1100 block of 72nd Street in Newport News with the robbery. Later that day, police said Frey was located in Northampton County, North Carolina. After a brief encounter with Northampton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Frey was found deceased.
The James City County Police Department thanked the FBI, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department, and members of the public for their assistance in resolving this case.
