YORK COUNTY — The cause of a fire at a business in the Grafton area of York County Sunday night is currently under investigation, according to the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.
According to fire officials, at approximately 7:50 p.m. Dec. 14, personnel were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm alerting inside a business in the 100 block of Greene Drive. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke inside the building. As personnel made their way into the structure, embers were seen coming from the HVAC vents, officials said. Fire and Life Safety personnel disconnected the building’s power supply, cutting off heat and airflow in the HVAC system, and personnel also applied water to the heat source.
Due to the proximity of the heat source to the building’s roof and the high winds impacting the area at the time, the incident required additional fire apparatus as a precaution, fire officials said.
The exact cause remains under investigation. There were no injuries.
Assistance was provided by the Newport News Fire Department and Hampton Fire and Rescue, according to officials.
