WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Police Department announced it is seeking information regarding an ongoing unlawful filming investigation stemming from an Aug. 2 arrest of a Gloucester County man.

According to officials, on Aug. 2, the Williamsburg Police Department responded to the area of South Henry Street and Duke of Gloucester Street for a reported incident of unlawful filming in a public bathroom.

Police said the responding officers contacted the Criminal Investigations Bureau, which sought, obtained, and executed multiple search warrants in relation to the case.

George Thomas West of Gloucester County was arrested and taken into custody on 17 counts of unlawful filming of another person and one count of disorderly conduct, police said.

The Williamsburg Police Department said West is believed to have unlawfully filmed thousands of males in public restrooms in the Colonial Williamsburg area, as well as in the region, dating back to 1996, and is specifically believed to have operated in the city on Saturdays.

Multiple victims from Aug. 2 remain unidentified, the department said. Anyone who believes they may have been unlawfully filmed in a men’s bathroom in the city is asked to contact Investigator Steve Roberts Jr. of the Williamsburg Police Department by email at [email protected] and include “West 825” in the subject line.

The Williamsburg Police Department said it anticipates many may contact the department in reference to this case, and additional resources have been assigned to speak with potential victims.
