YORK COUNTY— At the February 17 Board of Supervisors meeting, York County officials will consolidate all existing “No Wake Zone” markers into a single ordinance.
The county emphasized a few key points ahead of its meeting tonight:
- No new “No Wake” zones are being implemented. All current zones remain as previously approved. No expansion of existing No Wake Zones is requested.
- The County will continue to maintain and service all official No Wake Zone signs to ensure clarity and compliance for boaters.
- County officials emphasize that if residents wish to propose changes—whether adding or removing a zone—those requests must be submitted to the Board of Supervisors. Any proposed changes will follow the standard process, including submitting a request, a public hearing, and approval by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
“Our goal is to make sure boaters have clear, consistent information so they can enjoy our waterways safely,” said Deputy County Administrator Brian Fuller.
A No Wake Zone is an area where boaters are required to operate at a slow speed that does not create a wake, helping to protect shorelines, docks, and other vessels, as well as ensuring safety for swimmers and wildlife.
The consolidation is intended to eliminate confusion since the current zones were approved over several decades.
