WILLIAMSBURG— The Public Water System in Williamsburg received $295,000 in federal funding for security improvements after a request from Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01).

The funds were passed by the House and signed into law on Jan. 23, and were included in the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act of 2026, according to a press release from Wittman’s office.

As a result, Community Project Funding (CPF) will be used to conduct cybersecurity testing, install modernized terminals, and upgrade physical security infrastructure for Williamsburg’s Public Water System. CPF allows members of Congress to access federal tax dollars for priorities in their districts.

“I am pleased to see that my $295,000 funding request for the City of Williamsburg’s Public Water System has been signed into law,” said Rep. Wittman. “This funding will modernize Williamsburg’s physical and cybersecurity systems — protecting the city’s critical infrastructure and ensuring the people across the city have access to clean and reliable water.”

According to the press release, bad actors including “state-sponsored cyber groups, near-peer adversaries, and non-state organizations” have attempted to infiltrate and disrupt critical infrastructure across the United States at an increasing rate. The allocated funding is intended to strengthen the defenses at the water infrastructure facilities operated by the City of Williamsburg.
