HAMPTON ROADS — Santa made an early visit to the Hampton Roads region Dec. 14 to help Edmarc deliver holiday joy to families facing challenges this holiday season.

Edmarc, which hosts an annual Santa Run, brings together first responders, rescue teams, police officers, carolers, and volunteers to bring donated toys and gifts to children and families with life-threatening illnesses.

“The Santa Run is about more than presents — it’s about hope, joy, and making memories that last a lifetime,” said Debbie Stitzer-Brame. “Every gift, every smile, every carol sung is part of the miracle that happens when a community comes together.”

Edmarc families fill out a wish list for every child living in the home, and sponsors shop to make these wishes come true. Once delivered to Edmarc, volunteers lovingly wrap and tag each present and carefully sort them into giant, handmade Santa bags.

Four teams, each led by Santa, spread out across the Hampton Roads region to deliver gifts and holiday spirit. The visit from Santa often helps families forget about what they are going through for a few minutes.

Edmarc has been serving families in Hampton Roads for 47 years, providing compassionate care and support to children with life-threatening illnesses and their loved ones. Originally opened as a children’s hospice, the group was initially created as a grassroots effort to provide care for children in their homes. It has now expanded to provide multiple services to kids and families, allowing them to stay together while providing comfort.
