NEW KENT — Jenn Nixon recently announced the grand opening of Pink Confetti Co. after seeing a need in her community for a place for kids and adults to express their creativity.

Pink Confetti Co. is a creative studio featuring imaginative programs that encourage screen-free, hands-on creativity for kids and adults. Offerings include craft classes and STEM workshops to summer camps and birthday parties, all of which are designed to be interactive and engaging.

“As a mom fighting the digital device crutch and wanting to be more present and engaged, I recognized a need to help other parents like me on their journey to developing unplugged, creative kids. So many children live socially in a digital world and we know that social skills and real life experiences are an integral part of developing successful kids,” Nixon said.

Nixon offers classes for kids from aged 6 months to teenagers, adults, birthday parties, special events, summer camps, field trips and opportunities for after-school clubs and homeschool groups. Pink Confetti Co. can also host classes from other small businesses in the studio space.

Nixon said that she recognized that every kid deserves enriching experiences that fuel their imagination while encouraging social skills practice, yet countless schools struggle with the lack of time and resources to offer them. This realization and desire to spend more time with her 9-year-old daughter led her to open Pink Confetti Co.

“My inspiration always comes back to Disney World, that magical feeling I had as a kid and even as an adult now, going into that bubble of imagination and wonder. If I can bring that magic to others through a special event or birthday party, providing an unforgettable experience, what a dream that would be,” Nixon said.

Nixon, who spent eight years as an Engagement Coordinator at The Faison Center, a center for autism located in Richmond and Newport News, created programs that enabled students to practice essential life skills, from social experiences to participating in memorable events such as prom, summer camps and field trips in the community. Designing interactive experiences for students at Faison allowed Nixon to form a niche in developing engaging, hands-on learning that went beyond the traditional school-based curriculum.

Pink Confetti Co. is located at 12101 New Kent Highway, New Kent. Studio hours, class schedules, and more information can be found at pinkconfettico.com.
