YORK COUNTY — The York County School Division recently announced that Queens Lake Middle School Principal Candice Welch has been named the 2025 Outstanding Middle School Principal of Virginia by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals.
“Candice Welch’s leadership reflects the York County School Division’s commitment to ensuring every student is valued, supported, and challenged,” said Victor Shandor, division superintendent. “Her dedication to student achievement, school climate, and family engagement has made a lasting impact at Queens Lake Middle School. We are proud of her achievement and appreciate her efforts in shaping future-ready graduates.”
In making the announcement, VASSP commended Welch for fostering a positive learning environment where students feel safe and are encouraged to take risks; promoting a vibrant extracurricular program for all students; and ensuring close monitoring of data.
Welch has more than 16 years of experience in education, including six years as assistant principal at Tabb High School. Throughout her career, she has championed high-quality instruction, built strong partnerships, and created opportunities for students to thrive, the school division said.
She will be honored at the 2025 Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference, June 23-26 in Portsmouth, and will represent Virginia at the 2025 National Principals Conference in Seattle, Washington, July 11-13.
