WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg REALTORS participated in the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Robinson family’s new home on Dec. 16.

In 2022, Williamsburg REALTORS® partnered up with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and pledged to raise $110,000 for the construction of a safe and affordable home in James City County.

The association said that this milestone marked a significant step in a journey that began in 2022, when Williamsburg REALTORS partnered with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and pledged to raise $110,000 for the construction of a safe and affordable home in James City County.

After three years of fundraising efforts, the Williamsburg REALTORS Raising The Roof project entered its final stages, the association said, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony now on the horizon.

Williamsburg REALTORS called the event “a heartwarming celebration of collaboration and gratitude” and highlighted key contributors who made the achievement possible, including Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg, James City County, Williamsburg REALTORS members, partners and sponsors.

The ceremony opened with a welcoming address by Stephen Abbitt, Habitat for Humanity Immediate Past President, and Habitat CEO Shauntrice Williams followed with a blessing for the Robinson family and their new home. Meka Steward, Director of Homeowner Services, introduced Sandra Robinson, highlighting her dedication and the significant effort she contributed through equity hours.

Sen. Ryan T. McDougle congratulated the Robinson family on their achievement and spoke of the importance of working and collaborating on projects like this to raise awareness about the critical issue of affordable housing in the Greater Williamsburg Area.

Elizabeth Walthall, Immediate Past President of Williamsburg REALTORS, delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the REALTOR community, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg, and the Greater Williamsburg Area community at large for the unwavering support of the project. These efforts were said to have raised $110,000 through the Williamsburg REALTORS Raising the Roof campaign.

The final remarks came from Sandra Robinson herself, who shared her appreciation for the opportunity to build a stable, affordable home. She reflected on the transformative impact this home would have, providing stability and creating generational wealth for her family.

The ceremony concluded with participants gathering to break ground, marking the beginning of construction.

Williamsburg REALTORS thanked all those involved in the project.

Beyond fundraising efforts, Williamsburg REALTORS noted it plays an instrumental role in raising awareness about the critical issue of affordable housing in the Greater Williamsburg Area, adding that “the Robinson family’s new home stands as a testament to the power of community, collaboration, and a shared commitment to creating lasting change.”
