One Injured in Fire at the Yorktown Motor Lodge

YORK COUNTY — One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a fire Tuesday morning at the Yorktown Motor Lodge in York County.

According to the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety Facebook page, the department responded to the fire at the 8800 block of George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) just prior to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Officials said upon arrival, fire and rescue crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the rooms and the attic area in one wing of the facility. Additionally, one owner/occupant from the motel sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Medics treated and transported the injured patient to the Riverside Regional Medical Center while fire and rescue crews initiated firefighting operations, according to the department. Extensive fire damage occurred to one occupant’s room, as well as the attic area, and smoke extended to multiple rooms.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire was out, and investigators were working to determine the origin and cause.

Assistance was provided by the Newport News Fire Department and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire and Rescue, and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.
