YORKTOWN — The United Way of the Virginia Peninsula recently announced the winners of its AI Skill-a-Thon.
According to the organization, the free 30-day skilling competition helped local professionals, job seekers, students and employers learn basic knowledge in AI to help them in their chosen career path.
Twenty participants earned professional certificates to demonstrate their AI knowledge through the program and were awarded a total of $10,000 announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 8, it added.
The winners for each age category:
- First Place: Alissa Wilson, Julia Comfort, Tage Counts
- Second Place: Caitlyn Joseph, Nena Hill, Laurie Dickerson
- Third Place: Deya Gayle, Kisa White, Keisha Williams
- Fourth Place: Rachel Kuchta, Charone Drew, Linda Tafazoli
The United Way noted it is focused on “the education, health and financial stability of the community, and the skill-a-thon provided an opportunity for local professionals, job seekers, students and employers to learn basic knowledge, skills and competencies in AI to help them in their chosen career path.”
The AI Skill-a-Thon was made possible through a partnership with Microsoft.
“Through this partnership with Microsoft, we are empowering our community with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a digital age,” the organization said.
While the competition has concluded for this year, the United Way said the courses are still accessible in both English and Spanish and can be accessed by visiting United Way of the Virginia Peninsula | Community Skills Initiative (communityskilling.org).
