James City County Selects Fauntleroy as Director of Parks & Recreation

JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County announced Monday that Arlana Fauntleroy has been selected as the next director of Parks & Recreation, effective immediately.

Fauntleroy has spent her 33-year career with James City County’s Department of Parks & Recreation, starting as a volunteer and then being hired as a recreation leader and moving up the ranks.

“We knew we had outstanding staff in our Parks and Recreation Department but opened our search to ensure we hired the most qualified,” said County Administrator Scott Stevens. “By the end of the interview process, it was clear that Ms. Fauntleroy was the best choice to serve our community.”

According to the county, Fauntleroy is skilled in strategic planning, human resources management and national accreditation, and has held numerous leadership positions within the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS), including 2021 President, Professional Education & Certification Chair and Annual Conference Chair.

Fauntleroy has also served on the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the LEAD Greater Williamsburg Board of Directors, the county added. She has earned several leadership awards, including Parks & Recreation Employee of the Year, VRPS Fellows Award and VRPS Outstanding New Professional.

“I feel very fortunate to have lived, worked and played in James City County my entire life,” said Fauntleroy. “I am humbled and excited to have been chosen to lead the next chapter of Parks & Recreation with an awesome team of staff and the great residents of James City County.”

Fauntleroy holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation and tourism management with a minor in sports management and a master’s degree in public administration. She is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
