JAMES CITY COUNTY — Two people were injured when a commercial truck struck a utility pole near Norge Elementary and caused a power outage in James City County Monday afternoon.
According to officials, at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 11, James City County Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 7300 block of Richmond Road in response to a single-vehicle crash. A 2021 Isuzu commercial truck traveling westbound on Richmond Road had veered off the road and collided with a power pole, police said, leading to substantial damage and a power outage in parts of the nearby vicinity.
The driver and a passenger, both residents of James City County, were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. The extent and nature of their injuries was unknown, but the passenger was ejected from the vehicle, police said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, but police said preliminary assessments indicate speed may not have been a contributing factor.
As of 7 p.m. Monday night, Dominion was working to restore power, and it was unknown when the restoration would be completed. The westbound lane of Richmond Road near Norge Elementary was open to one travel lane, with no restrictions to the eastbound lanes, police said.
