Joint Base Langley-Eustis Structure Fire Extinguished, Cause Under Investigation

JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS — Firefighters with Hampton Fire and Rescue, the NASA Fire Department and Langley Fire Department responded to a fire at Building 777 on Sweeney Boulevard at Joint Base Langley-Eustis Monday morning.

The main fire began on Langley Air Force Base at 10:47 a.m., and was extinguished at approximately 1:14 p.m. Fire emergency services personnel will continue to monitor and extinguish any residual small fires, according to Public Affairs.

All personnel in the affected facility and surrounding buildings have been accounted for, and  there were no hazardous exposures or injuries reported, according to the press release. Those evacuated from nearby buildings, including residents from a nearby housing area, have been cleared to return.

The building remains cordoned off, but the area of Sweeney Boulevard adjacent to the building, where traffic was being rerouted, has reopened.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are under investigation.
