Virginia Arts Festival Announces Tower of Power for Williamsburg Live

WILLIAMSBURG — The legendary Tower of Power, with fusion band TAUK opening, will be the Saturday headliner for the 2024 Williamsburg Live weekend, Virginia Arts Festival has announced.

“This puts the crowning touch on our 2024 Williamsburg Live lineup,” said Virginia Arts Festival Perry Artistic Director Robert W. Cross. “Together with The Beach Boys on Friday and superstar Laufey on Sunday, it’s going to be an unforgettable weekend for fans.”

For more than 55 years, Tower of Power has been among the best in funk and soul, charting hits like “So Very Hard to Go,” “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still A Young Man.”

The band has also backed artists ranging from Otis Redding, Elton John, Santana, the Grateful Dead, John Lee Hooker, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt and more.

Opening for Tower of Power is the fusion band TAUK, a band that combines “elements of progressive rock, funk, and soul into a blend that’s drawing acclaim and fans on recordings and on the road,” according to the announcement.

Each June, the Virginia Arts Festival hosts the annual outdoor summer music event Williamsburg Live on The Lawn of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg. Already announced for the 2024 edition are The Beach Boys on on Friday, June 21 and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Laufey on Sunday, June 23. 

Past artists headliners have included Allison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Lake Street Dive, Rhiannon Giddens, Jason Isbell, Martina McBride, Amos Lee, Chris Thile, Leyla McCalla, The Wood Brothers, Shovels & Rope, Kenny Loggins, and Keb’ Mo’.

Tickets for Tower of Power go on sale Thursday, March 21 and are available at vafest.org, by phone at 757-281-2822, or at the Festival Ticket Office at 440 Bank St. in Norfolk Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
