Virginia Arts Festival Announces First Headliner for June’s Williamsburg Live

Laufey. (Virginia Arts Festival)

NORFOLK — Virginia Arts Festival announced jazz singer-songwriter Laufey will perform Sunday, June 23, at Williamsburg Live on the Lawn of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg.

Laufey (pronounced lāy-vāy) is the first performer announced for this year’s edition of the annual outdoor summer music event held each June in Williamsburg. According to the organizers, the Icelandic-Chinese artist loves Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Taylor Swift. Laufey has more than 6 million TikTok views and holds the record for the most-streamed jazz debut on Spotify.

“She’s classically trained, jazz-forward, pop-influenced, and entirely her own artist — one that’s making waves and winning new audiences for old songs like ‘Misty’ as well as her own witty, irresistible songs. You’ll fall in love with this madly popular new singer,” Virginia Arts Festival said in its announcement.

Her “Bewitched” album snagged a GRAMMY nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and her holiday collab with Norah Jones, “Christmas With You,” was a hit.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. and will be available at vafest.org, by phone 757-282-2822, and in person at the Virginia Arts Festival Box Office in Norfolk.
