Open Door Concert Series to Return with Ellington Tribute

Gabrielle Goodman (Open Door Concert Series)

WILLIAMSBURG — Season five of the Open Door Concert Series at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church will begin on a jazz note, with a performance by Gabrielle Goodman on Sept. 24.

According to the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, Goodman has found professional success by straddling universes — performing backup for Chaka Khan or Roberta Flack one night and singing with the Boston Pops the next as an opera singer.

Immediately following intermission, Goodman will lead a discussion with Mercedes Ellington, granddaughter of Duke Ellington, to learn more about growing up in the Ellington family and about the modern mission of the Duke Ellington Foundation.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. No reservation or ticket is required to attend.

Other upcoming performances include:

  • Seamus Egan Project on Nov. 5
  • Baltimore Consort on Feb. 25
  • Aaron David Miller on April 21
  • Windborne Singers on May 19

All concerts begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reception with the performer. For more information about the upcoming groups, visit the official Open Door Concert Series website.
