JAMES CITY COUNTY — A 30-year-old James City County resident died in a single-vehicle accident Monday on Forge Road.

According to James City County, on Aug. 28, the James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident on Forge Road between Diascund Road and Brickyard Road at approximately 4:10 p.m.

The initial assessment determined that a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado had exited the roadway and crashed into a tree, officials said.

The driver, Gordon Monroe Ivey III, was unresponsive and in need of immediate medical attention. Despite CPR and life-saving measures performed by both police and medical personnel, Ivey was declared dead at the scene by James City County Medics.

Officials said initial findings indicate that weather conditions played a factor in the accident.
