WILLIAMSBURG — Lifelong Hampton Roads resident Megan Antol was in search of a new hobby she could do with her two young children in tow. She found needlepoint and was hooked from the first stitch.

After completing a ton of her designs in 2024, Antol reached out to a few friends she had made in the needlepoint community who encouraged her along the way.

“The needlepoint community has really surprised me. A lot of people think that the needlepoint community is older women, a grandma hobby, but since COVID, it has really exploded with the younger generation. It’s been a really fun hobby,” Antol said.

With success in online sales, Antol is now launching a needlepoint online store, with a brick-and-mortar Williamsburg location set to open in the fall.

Williamsburg Needlepoint’s online store opens today at 10 a.m. and will have canvases available for purchase. The in-person location will be a full-service needlepoint store with canvases, threads, accessories, finishing supplies, and classes.

The storefront location will be located in the Colony Square shopping center on Jamestown Road. Antol is hopeful that the in-person location will be open in September.

Antol hopes the brick-and-mortar location will be a place where the community can come together to stitch, learn and bond at any age.

“One of the things I love so much about needlepoint is the community, and I can’t build that if I don’t have a space for it to happen,” Antol says.

As the business grows, Antol hopes to add stitch and sip nights and a needlepoint retreat.

“Needlepoint retreats are a really big thing in the needlepoint community. It’s basically a long weekend where needlepoint creators come together, have classes and open stitching time. I asked the community about it on social media and I got a huge response about how many people would love to be part of something like that in Williamsburg. I would love to be able to host a retreat and have a part in bringing the larger needlepoint community to the area,” Antol said.

With the online storefront open, Antol will be posting construction updates on the physical location to both the Williamsburg Needlepoint Instagram and Facebook.
