VIRGINIA BEACH — Finding a cheeseburger in paradise became a little more difficult on Aug. 21, when Cheeseburger in Paradise closed the doors for good on its Lynnhaven Mall location.

A sign on the door at the 739 Lynnhaven Parkway location alerted potential customers to the closing.

In response to an email inquiry, Cheeseburger in Paradise guest relations wrote: “Our decision to close this location was difficult. All companies continually evaluate assets and operations as a standard business practice. After looking closely at this establishment, we determined that it made the best business sense to close this location. We feel that by making this difficult decision now, we are helping to position Cheeseburger in Paradise for more positive growth in the future.”

The Cheeseburger in Paradise website currently lists only two locations: Omaha, Nebraska and Secaucus, New Jersey.

The restaurant was originally founded by singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett and named after his popular 1978 song.

Buffett and Paradise Restaurants Group LLC sold its interests in 2012 to Luby’s Inc. for $11 million. At that time there were 23 of the restaurants.

Luby’s also operates Fuddruckers and Luby’s Cafeteria.

No word yet on future plans for the building that housed the restaurant.
