The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown is a landmark in the community, and now has some hardware to show for it.

York’s County’s Economic Development Authority recognized the American Revolution Museum at its Annual Distinguished Business Affair on Feb. 13, according to an EDA press release.

The museum took home the first ever Lafayette Award for Best Placemaking Business in York County.

The award “recognizes placemaking projects that improve the community through revitalization, blight reduction, historic preservation, or high quality new construction, and that contribute to the creation of unique and memorable places and help develop York County’s identity,” according to the release.

The American Revolution Museum celebrated its grand opening in the spring of 2017 and has since hosted exhibits and living history events that chronicle the birth of the U.S.

Karen Riordan, president of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance, presented the award to Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Executive Director Philip Emerson.

In 2017, paid attendance at the American Revolution Museum totaled 203,632, an increase of 25.6 percent from 2016,  according to a GWCTA press release.

At the awards ceremony, Marina Electrical Equipment was also awarded the William Rogers “Poor Potters” Award for investments in York County, and Walsh Electric took home the Pete Sterrett Small Business of the Year Award.
