The sun is setting on Williamsburg’s Tuesday Morning.

The Williamsburg Shopping Center’s Tuesday Morning will close its doors by Jan. 7. A store manager confirmed the closing date but otherwise declined to comment.

The shopping center — located at the intersection of Richmond Road and Monticello Avenue — is owned by Broad Street Realty, which purchased the center in January.

Broad Street plans to develop the Williamsburg and Monticello Shopping Centers into Midtown Row, which will be a residential and retail hub.

Broad Street CEO Michael Jacoby said the store is closing because the building Tuesday Morning occupies will be demolished for construction of Midtown Row, and Tuesday Morning’s lease is expiring.

Midtown Row will feature four five-story buildings; each one will have four floors of residential apartments above ground-floor businesses, such as retail and restaurants.

The buildings that contain Sal’s by Victor and Food Lion will remain, while some of the businesses will change.

Midtown will also include a public plaza and is designed to be pedestrian-friendly.

Spokespersons for Tuesday Morning did not immediately respond to a request for comment before publication.

The store sells clothing, home décor, furniture, toys, small appliances and more, according to its website. There are two Tuesday Morning stores located in Newport News.

Signs in the store indicate a clearance sale on merchandise is ongoing.
