A 60-minute, heart-rate monitored fitness trend will soon be coming to Williamsburg.

Orangetheory Fitness, a growing fitness franchise aimed at interval training, announced Wednesday that a new studio will opening at the Shops of High Street Friday.

Owned and operated by William & Mary alum Scott Walton and his wife Tami, the new studio will be celebrating its grand opening Friday from 6-8 p.m. and the studio will officially open to the public on Saturday with classes starting at 7:30 a.m.

“We are passionate about health and wellness and are excited to bring Orangetheory Fitness to our community,” Tami Walton said in a press release. “We can’t wait for the Williamsburg Community to become part [of] the Orangetheory family and start seeing results from the unique and high-energy workout.”

Orangetheory Fitness launched its first studio in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in March 2010, according to the release. The company now has more than 630 studios in 45 states and 13 countries — and the fitness franchise is on track to have 900 open studios by the end of this year.

The fitness concept is structured around 60-minute, five-zone, heart-rate monitored interval training, the release stated. The Watsons first learned about the franchise while in Oxford, Miss.

The couple decided to retire in Williamsburg after Scott Watson, 1997 graduate of William & Mary, retired from the Army after 20 years of Active Duty service.

More information on Orangetheory Fitness is available on the company’s website.
