WILLIAMSBURG — Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard in Williamsburg is now under new ownership.
Husband and wife Danielle and Carmen Racciatti, who said they’ve always wanted to become part of the Williamsburg community, saw potential in the business and decided to jump at the opportunity as owning a Rita’s felt like the perfect way to do so. They officially bought the shop in November 2023.
Carmen has more than 20 years of background in entrepreneurship, running his own barber shops since he was 24. Danielle works as an elementary school teacher, where she currently teaches fourth graders at Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.
The couple recently relocated from Arizona, making Williamsburg their new home turf thanks to their new Rita’s venture. But for Danielle, Williamsburg isn’t just any town — it’s where she spent her summers growing up — a place full of memories for her.
Each had their reasons for choosing Rita’s specifically for this venture. Carmen’s first job was at an ice cream shop, serving treats and connecting with customers. Danielle loves connecting with kids and young adults, so having the opportunity to be yet another mentor in a different capacity outside of teaching with that age demographic on her treat team sounded like a perfect fit. Carmen and Danielle also wanted a business that both would enjoy contributing to.
“We are beyond excited to open back up the Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard for the Williamsburg community,” the co-franchisees said. “We can’t wait to meet and serve the community and have the chance to bring joy to our neighborhood!”
Based in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Rita’s is known for its Italian ice, frozen custard, signature gelati and specialty frozen treats. Originally founded in May 1984 by Philadelphia firefighter Bob Tumolo, Rita’s now has approximately 550 shops in more than 30 states.
