REGIONAL — Craving funnel cake but don’t want to go to a theme park?
Enter Funnel Cakes Galore & More.
It says it all in the name. This food truck takes the basic funnel cake to the next level by incorporating other favorite desserts with their cakes.
The truck, owned by the Hopkins family, is based out of Washington, N.C. But a familiar local face is also attached to Funnel Cakes Galore and More. Termaine Hopkins is the principal of Waller Mill Elementary School.
“We started this business a little over a year ago,” said Jonathan Hopkins, husband to Termaine. Hopkins said it was always a dream of his mother’s to run a food truck. His sister, Shameka, suggested the food truck focus on funnel cakes.
“I wasn’t too sure about it, but she said it would work,” Hopkins said. “And she was right.”
The most popular item on their menu is the Strawberry Cheesecake Galore, a funnel cake topped with powered sugar, fresh strawberries, a cheesecake, and a strawberry glaze.
“We did good at our grand opening, so then we just kept doing events. Pretty soon, we realized we had a pretty decent following,” Hopkins said.
But it’s not just funnel cakes they do. The food truck also offers deep-fried oreos, twinkies, cotton candy, and frozen desserts live Italian water ices.
Among their frozen desserts, the Peach “Wip” (short for water ice parfait), is another favorite among their followers.
