Suspicious package closes old York-Hampton Highway

Update 6:15 p.m.: The roads in the area of Hornsbyville have been reopened, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release. The “suspicious package” was a piece of a microwave with some duct tape around it. “It was treated with an abundance of caution until it could be determined what it was,” the release stated. 

York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies have blocked off an area in the 1400 block of Old York-Hampton Highway after a suspicious package was reported, according to a sheriff’s office tweet.

The package was found in a vacant house, the tweet said.

The road and surrounding area is blocked between Tides Run and Hornsbyville Road. Battle Road is also closed.

Sheriff’s office photos show a bomb squad is on scene.
