NORFOLK — What did you do for lunch Thursday? Some Norfolk city employees spent their break taking a walk in the sun with man’s best friend.
City employees were invited to the “Human Walk” in Downtown Norfolk at the Scope Plaza. Pooches from local shelters were the star of the event, which was sponsored by the city, the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center and Chesapeake Animal Control.
“People just love to be with dogs and learn learn about the shelters, learn about volunteering, and learn about the adoption process, and meet the staff and the volunteers,” said Barbara Hays, shelter director of the NACC.
“It’s just a lot of fun. No pressure. We have a lot of people show up with their own dogs today just to get them out and to do something different and everybody’s welcome,” she added.
While the event drew locals, people from outside the city came as well. Cy Corbin and Kim Diggs, who traveled to Norfolk from the Outer Banks, spent the early part of their afternoon playing with the pups.
“The premise was to just walk the dogs and not take one home, but it’s really hard,” Corbin said.
